The Rector of the University of Tampere welcomes you to Tampere!

The University of Tampere is a multidisciplinary university located right across the street from the Tampere Hall. There are nearly 16,000 students at the University of whom 10% are international students.

The research profile of the University accentuates social and health sciences. The research cooperation with international researchers and research groups expands every year.

Multiculturalism is one of the focal points of research and teaching in both the educational and social sciences. The University of Tampere also has the only professorship in International Health in Finland. According to the University strategy which emphasizes making the University more international, we educate people with Master’s degrees in International Health and Public Health.

Getting the Metropolis conference to Tampere is important to the University as it enables a dialogue and the forming of cooperation networks with experts coming from several different countries. The subjects in the conference sessions around the theme ‘The New Mobility: Managing Growth, Security, and Social Justice’ fit well with the profile of the University of Tampere and our own experts, too, can bring their know-how to the conference.

The University of Tampere and the Tampere University of Technology work closely together on organising the conference, including the field trips and social programme.

The University of Tampere hopes that a lot of participants will come to the congress and welcomes all participants in our beautiful city which the two Universities and the City of Tampere develop and cherish together.

Kaija Holli, Rector of the University of Tampere
